State Extends Power Line Project Deadline

A controversial power line project along the Hudson River has been delayed.

An extension was granted to allow West Point Partners extra time to seek out an alternative route and converter station site.

The Catskill Daily Mail reports West Point has been given until November 5th to explore the possibility of using lands adjacent to an existing route, which runs through uninhabited Greene County land where National Grid power lines already exist.

The line would transfer power from a converter station in the Town of Athens through the village — via one of Athens' most heavily populated streets, then under the Hudson River, to its ultimate destination, New York City. Opponents fear the impact on health, safety and property values.
