The city is offering financial support to owners of historic buildings damaged in the 2011 tornado that tore through western Massachusetts.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says the $200,000 fund will cover unmet repair needs still lingering from June 1, 2011, tornado.

Properties must have been damaged in the tornado, located in the city-designated "Tornado Impact Zone" and be within a historic district, among other requirements. The deadline for proposals is Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.

The 2011 tornado was classed as an EF-3, lasted over an hour and cut a roughly 40-mile path through Hampden and Worcester counties. The storm led to the deaths of three people, injured hundreds more and caused millions of dollars in property damage.
