The man charged with killing three women whose bodies were found in his Springfield, Massachusetts home has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
A judge ordered Stewart Weldon held without bail after his arraignment Monday in Springfield on a 52-count grand jury indictment.
In addition to three murder counts, Weldon is accused of rape, kidnapping and assault for crimes against a total of 11 victims over the course of a year.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, speaking with reporters after the arraignment, described the case as “sprawling.”
"We've had a lot of contact with living victims and families of living and deceased victims, they are pleased with where this has gone so far, but there is a long ways to go and we realize that," he said.
The bodies were found in May after the 40-year-old Weldon was pulled over by police and a woman in his car said she had been held against her will, beaten, and sexually assaulted.
