Springfield To Hold Night Out Events With Police At 11 Locations

Many cities in the region will participate Tuesday in National Night Out, an annual event that seeks to improve relations between the police and the community.

With free food and entertainment at 11 locations National Night Out has become a  mid-summer institution in Springfield, Massachusetts where it has been held for more than 20 years.

Magda Rodriquez, the Springfield Police Department’s Community Liaison, said the police look forward to participating.

" You're going to see K-9 units and all of the police department there and actively engaging with the community," said Rodriquez.

One of the events scheduled is a “peace walk” through one of the city’s high crime neighborhoods.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
