No. 2 UAlbany has made it to the men’s NCAA men's lacrosse Final Four. The Great Danes defeated Denver 15-13 Saturday.
They'll play third-seeded Yale Saturday. The Bulldogs topped UAlbany 14-6 in New Haven, Conn. last month.
NBA
Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are two victories away from their fourth straight trip to the NBA Finals following a lopsided win over the Houston Rockets in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.
Curry found his shooting touch as the two-time MVP nailed five 3-pointers and scored 35 points to lead the Warriors to a 126-85 pounding of the Rockets. Curry did most of his damage against James Harden, who finished with 20 points and nine assists.
The Warriors took firm control of the game while outscoring the Rockets 34-24 in the third quarter. Curry delivered 18 points on 7 of 7 shooting in the period to help Golden State take an 88-67 lead into the fourth quarter.
Curry was 5-for-12 from beyond the arc after going 2-for-13 over the first two games.
Kevin Durant contributed 25 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Warriors, while Draymond Green grabbed 17 boards and chipped in 10 points and six assists.
The Warriors won an NBA-record 16th consecutive home postseason game, surpassing the Chicago Bulls' mark of 15 in a row from April 27, 1990-May 21, 1991.
Chris Paul had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Houston, but he and Harden combined to shoot just 12-for-32.
Game 4 is Tuesday in Oakland.
NHL
The Vegas Golden Knights have made hockey history by advancing to the Stanley Cup final.
The Knights earned a 2-1 victory at Winnipeg in Game 5 of the Western Conference final to become the first NHL team to win three playoff series in its inaugural season. The run to the final comes after Vegas set NHL records for wins and points by a first-year club.
Neither team scored after Ryan Reaves snapped a 1-1 deadlock 13:21 into the second period. Marc-Andre Fleury needed to make just eight of his 31 saves during the final period to preserve the victory.
Alex Tuch also scored for the Golden Knights, who won four straight after dropping the series opener at Winnipeg.
Josh Morrissey scored the Jets' lone goal in the first period. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 30 shots for the Jets.
Vegas will take on either Washington or Tampa Bay in the final.
Boston will take on the Cavaliers in game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals Monday at 8:30 p.m. The Celtics hold a two games to one lead over Cleveland.
HOCKEY-WORLDS
Sweden has successfully defended its crown in the ice hockey world championship by edging Switzerland 3-2 in the final.
Filip Forsberg scored the decisive goal in the shootout to give Sweden a third world title in six years, and 11th overall.
Meanwhile, the United States topped Canada 4-1 to claim the bronze medal.
MLB
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees remain in a virtual first-place tie in the American League East following victories by both teams on Sunday.
Tyler Austin crushed a pair of two-run homers and Sonny Gray tossed four-hit ball over eight innings as the Yankees throttled the Royals, 10-1 at Kansas City. Gray was starting for the first time in nine days, when he was tagged for five runs and a season-high nine hits in five innings against Oakland.
Miguel Andujar and Austin Romine added back-to-back homers in the ninth for the Yankees, who have won 14 of their last 15 against the AL Central.
The Red Sox kept pace by getting a pair of homers and three RBIs from J.D. Martinez in a 5-0 shutout of the Orioles. Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a two-run shot to support Eduardo Rodriguez, who struck out seven and managed to blank Baltimore despite allowing nine hits over 5 2/3 innings.
The Birds wasted a 13-hit attack and fell to a major league-worst 4-19 on the road this season.
The Yankees head to Texas to take on the Rangers Monday at 8:05 p.m.
Elsewhere in the majors:
Lance McCullers struck out eight and limited the Indians to one hit over seven shutout innings of the Astros' 3-1 victory. Carlos Carrasco matched zeroes with McCullers until Brian McCann launched a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help Houston maintain a two-game lead over Seattle in the AL West.
Francisco Liriano carried a no-hitter into the seventh before the Mariners rallied to beat the Tigers, 3-2 in 11 innings. Mitch Haniger broke up the no-hitter with a single and tied the game with a two-run blast in the ninth before Seattle celebrated Jean Segura's walk-off single.
Shohei Ohtani struck out nine while throwing 7 2/3 innings of six-hit ball to lead the Angels past the Rays, 5-2. Martin Maldonado homered and drove in two runs in helping Los Angeles end a five-game slide.
The Athletics completed a four-game sweep in Toronto as Daniel Mengden allowed two hits over seven shutout innings of a 9-2 romp over the Blue Jays. Marcus Semien hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs, and Matt Chapman had three hits and a walk for Oakland.
The White Sox have their first home series win of the season after Reynaldo Lopez allowed only two hits in a career-high eight innings of Chicago's 3-0 shutout of Texas. Lopez struck out eight and walked two in his first victory since Sept. 22 against Kansas City.
Dansby Swanson's two-run single capped a six-run ninth that sent the Braves to a wild 10-9 comeback win over the Marlins. Ronald Acuna Jr. drove in two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth as Atlanta won for the ninth time in 12 games to move 11 games over .500 for the first time since July 2014.
The Braves' lead in the NL East is up to 1 ½ games over Philadelphia after rookie Jack Flaherty struck out 13 and Tyler O'Neill homered to send the Cardinals past the Phillies, 5-1. Flaherty limited the Phils to a pair of hits and one walk over 7 2/3 innings of his first big league victory.
The Dodgers completed a three-game sweep in Washington as Kike Hernandez and Yasiel Puig each hit two-run homers in a 7-2 drubbing of the Nationals. Yasmani Grandal also went deep and Alex Wood allowed two runs in six innings as Los Angeles won its fourth in a row since a six-game skid.
Amed Rosario had gone 200 at-bats without a homer before going deep in consecutive at-bats to lead the Mets to a 4-1 victory over the Diamondbacks and their first three-game sweep at home since 2016. Pinch-hitter Asdrubal Cabrera added a go-ahead, two-run shot and Noah Syndergaard struck out seven over seven innings to help New York send Arizona to its 10th loss in 11 games. The Mets head to Miami to take on the Marlins at 7:10 p.m. Monday.
The DBacks still lead the NL West by a half-game over Colorado after Brandon Belt's tiebreaking, three-run homer sent the Giants to a 9-5 win against the Rockies. Nick Hundley added a seventh-inning blast and Gorkys Hernandez smacked a two-run shot as San Francisco dealt the Rockies their third loss in 11 road games this month.
The Twins pulled out a 3-1 win over the Brewers on Logan Morrison's two-run double in the eighth. Minnesota was 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position in the series until Morrison's two-bagger left Milwaukee with a 1 ½-game lead over the Cubs, Cardinals and Pirates in the NL Central.
Homers by Kyle Schwarber, Javier Baez and Ben Zobrist powered the Cubs past the Reds, 6-1. Yu Darvish finally picked up his first win since signing with Chicago, allowing a first-inning run and just two hits with seven strikeouts over six frames.
Freddy Galvis laid down a go-ahead squeeze bunt on a four-run ninth that propelled the Padres past the Pirates, 8-5. Christian Villanueva and A.J. Ellis each had two hits and two RBIs for San Diego, which blew a 4-1 lead before winning the four-game set in Pittsburgh.
Elsewhere in the MLB
The Atlanta Braves have released Jose Bautista and will make 24-year-old switch hitter Johan Camargo their starting third baseman. The 37-year-old Bautista hit .143 with two homers and five RBIs in 12 games with the Braves. Camargo has a .284 career average with six homers and 40 RBIs in 106 big league games. The Braves also recalled right-hander Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Outfielder Juan Soto is the youngest current major leaguer after making his debut with the Nationals on Sunday. The 19-year-old Soto hit .362 with 14 homers and 52 RBIs in the minors this season. He pinch hit in the eighth inning against the Dodgers Sunday and struck out.
Rich Hill is back on the Dodgers' disabled list, a day after a blister burst on his left middle finger. Meanwhile, ace Clayton Kershaw threw a bullpen session Sunday for the first time since landing on the disabled list on May 6 with left biceps tendinitis.
The Rangers have activated reliever Chris Martin from the 10-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Ariel Jurado to Double-A Frisco.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
The University of Minnesota has picked up another scholarship player for the upcoming basketball season by getting graduate transfer Brock Stull.
The shooting guard was the second-leading scorer for Milwaukee last season, averaging 13.4 points.
Stull has one year of eligibility remaining.
GOLF
PGA Tour rookie Aaron Wise is the winner of the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas. Wise set a tournament scoring record in earning his first career victory. He was 23 under in a tournament that was dominated by Marc Leishman for 36 holes. The 21-year-old Wise closed with a 6-under 65 to earn a three-stroke victory over Leishman. Branden Grace, J.J. Spaun and Keith Mitchell finished in a third-place tie at minus-19. Grace closed with a 62 to match his career best from last year's British Open.
The Spariard closed with a 2-under 70 for a 19-under total, three shots ahead of Steve Stricker, Joe Durant and Gene Sauers. Jimenez held or shared the lead after every round and took a three-shot edge into Sunday's play at Greystone Golf & Country Club.
Ariya Jutanugarn birdied the second hole of a playoff to win the Kingsmill Championship for the second time in three years. Jutanugarn closed with a 5-under 66 to match Nasa Hataoka and In Gee Chun at 14-under 199. Jutanugarn and Hataoka both birdied the first extra hole, with Chun dropping out.
INDY 500
Ed Carpenter ruined Team Penske's Indianapolis 500 pole-position party.
Carpenter blew past three Penske drivers on the second-to-last run in qualifying to claim his third pole at the Brickyard with a four-lap average of 229.618 mph. Penske's Simon Pagenaud was second at 228.761.
Carpenter was the only driver to top 230 on any lap and the only one to top 229 on all four.
Danica Patrick qualified seventh for her first IndyCar start since 2011. Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves will chase a record-tying victory from the middle of Row 3.
TENNIS
Rafael Nadal will be back atop the ATP rankings after winning in Rome once again.
The Spaniard extended his Italian Open championship record to eight by downing defending champ Alexander Zverev, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. That allows Nadal to move ahead of Roger Federer on Monday.
Federe is sitting out the clay season to prepare for Wimbledon.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Gifted running back and former Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon has died at age 80.
The former LSU standout wrapped up the 1959 Heisman with a memorable punt return touchdown against Mississippi on Halloween night. He later had a success career with the Oilers, Raiders and Chiefs.
LSU says Cannon died at his home in St. Francisville on Sunday morning.
