The Netherlands will play the United States for the Women's World Cup title Sunday in Lyon, France. Jackie Groenen scored from outside the penalty area in the 99th minute to give the Dutch a 1-0 victory over Sweden.

It was Groenen's first goal of the tournament and it set up a meeting between the European champions and the reigning world champions. The Americans moved into the championship game by downing England, 2-1 on Tuesday.

MLB

Domingo Germán pitched six innings in his return from injury to lead the Yankees to their 14th victory in 16 games, 5-1 over the Mets. Germán limited the Mets to four hits and a run while tossing 80 pitches after being sidelined for four weeks with a strained left hip flexor. Didi Gregorius and Gio Urshela hit consecutive round-trippers for the Yanks, whose major league-record 31-game home run streak ended Tuesday against the Mets.

Danny Jansen and Brandon Drury each hit two-run homers and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added a solo shot as the Blue Jays doubled up the Red Sox, 6-3. All three homers came off Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale, who surrendered five runs and a season-high nine hits over 5 2/3s in losing for the first time in six starts. Toronto right-hander Jacob Waguespack allowed three runs and five hits in five-plus innings for his first career win.

The Nationals made it seven wins in their last eight games as Stephen Strasburg fanned 14 while allowing two hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings to lead a 3-1 victory over the Marlins. The right-hander has won his last 11 decisions versus Miami and is 20-7 with a 2.86 ERA in 34 career starts against the Marlins. Brian Dozier and Matt Adams homered for the Nationals, who are 25-10 since May 24.

The Atlanta Braves have regained their 5 ½-game lead in the NL East after bouncing back from Tuesday’s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Josh Donaldson and Austin Riley hit three-run homers off Nick Pivetta as the Braves clobbered the Phils, 9-2. Matt Joyce added a pinch-hit, two-run homer off Juan Nicasio in Atlanta's six-run sixth. Rookie Bryse Wilson allowed two runs in six innings in only his fourth career start and third of the season, giving the Braves’ rotation a boost heading into the second half. Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper produced his 200th home run and 1,000th career hit when he went deep in the sixth.

Elsewhere around the majors, the Dodgers set a major league record with a fifth straight walk-off home win as All-Star Cody Bellinger homered in the 10th inning of a 5-4 triumph over the Diamondbacks. Bellinger also hit a solo shot in the second inning before becoming the first Dodger to homer 29 times before the All-Star break. Los Angeles improved to 36-9 at home and expanded its lead in the NL West to 14 games over Colorado.

Wade Miley struck out six and retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced to complete a strong six-inning performance in the Astros’ 4-2 victory against the Rockies. Alex Bregman hit his team-leading 23rd homer, a solo shot in the first. Yuri Gurriel led off the second with his 11th round-tripper of the season and third of the series to help Houston get its fifth consecutive win.

Sonny Gray tied his career high with 12 strikeouts while allowing four hits over eight innings of the Reds’ 3-0 shutout of the Brewers. Yasiel Puig homered for the second consecutive game, but Cincinnati finished the game without second baseman Scooter Gennett because of tightness in the left side of his groin. Puig went deep against Jhoulys Chacin, who is 0-6 with a 5.93 ERA in nine starts since his last victory.

The Pirates earned a 6-5 win over the Cubs when Jung Ho Kang scored on Corey Dickerson's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. Chicago had a 5-4 lead and was about to pull into a first-place tie with Milwaukee in the NL Central until Adam Frazier tied it with a fielder’s choice off loser Craig Kimbrel. Josh Bell homered and doubled to give him 59 extra-base hits, the most ever by a National Leaguer before the All-Star break.

Tommy Edman’s two-out, three-run home run capped a five-run ninth in the Cardinals’ 5-2 victory at Seattle. The Mariners carried a 2-0 lead into the final inning before Dexter Fowler hit an RBI single and Yadier Molina lifted a sacrifice fly. M’s starter Mike Leake threw 7 2/3 shutout innings while facing his former team for the first time.

Evan Longoria and Alex Dickerson hit consecutive home runs in the third inning before the Giants tacked on four more runs in the sixth to beat the Padres, 7-5. Donovan Solano, pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Belt provided RBI doubles in the sixth to help San Francisco complete its first three-game sweep of the season. San Diego reliever Luis Perdomo apparently thought time had been called and lobbed a pitch toward the plate in the sixth, hitting Kevin Pillar before the Giants hit their three run-scoring doubles.

Renato Nunez hit a three-run blast to complete a six-run ninth that gave the Orioles a 9-3 win at Tampa Bay. Rio Ruiz also slammed a three-run homer before Nunez gave Baltimore a 9-3 lead. Rookie All-Star left-hander John Means started for the Birds and yielded two earned runs and six hits over seven innings.

Mitch Garver singled home the go-ahead run in the 12th inning to send the Twins to just their second win in six games, 4-3 at Oakland. Late lineup addition Jorge Polanco hit a tying solo homer in the eighth for the Twins. That marked Minnesota's 161st homer through 85 games, tying the pre-All-Star break record set by the Yankees last year.

The Indians blanked the Royals, 4-0 as Mike Clevenger limited Kansas City to four hits while fanning nine over six innings. Carlos Santana and Roberto Perez homered to support Clevenger, who is 7-0 with a 2.03 ERA lifetime against the Royals. Danny Duffy too the loss despite holding Cleveland to a pair of runs on five hits and five walks over 6 2/3 innings.

Filling the roster spot of the late Tyler Skaggs, Jaime Barria struck out a career-high eight batters in five innings as the Angels beat the Rangers, 6-2. Barria allowed both runs on four hits and two walks before the Los Angeles bullpen scattered four hits the rest of the way. Mike Trout shares the American League home run lead after belting a three-run shot and a solo blast.

The White Sox were 7-5 winners over the Tigers in Game 1 of a doubleheader as Dylan Cease allowed three runs and four hits while striking out six over five innings of his major league debut. The 23-year-old right-hander issued three of his four walks and also hit a batter while Detroit was scoring twice in the opening frame. Yolmer Sánchez had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice for the White Sox.

The White Sox completed a sweep of the twinbill by downing the Tigers, 9-6 on Jose Abreu’s three-run homer in the bottom of the 12th. Yoan Moncada and Ryan Cordell each went deep twice as Chicago won for the fifth time in six games. Detroit has dropped 11 of its last 12.

In MLB news, there’s a new look to the American League All-Star roster for next Tuesday’s game in Cleveland. First-time All-Star Tommy La Stella has been replaced by Tampa Bay's Brandon Lowe a day after the Angels second baseman fouled a ball of his shin. La Stella is expected to be out 8 to 10 weeks after a CT scan revealed a broken right tibia. Although Lowe was added to the roster, his status is questionable after he fouled a ball off his right leg on Tuesday.

Boston's Xander Bogaerts takes over as the designated hitter for Rangers outfielder Hunter Pence, who’s been out since June 16 with a right groin strain and experienced a setback in his recovery during a rehab game. Also, José Berríos will fill in for fellow Minnesota right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who left Tuesday's game in Oakland with a blister on right middle finger. Odorizzi is headed for the injured list.

Domestic assault charges against Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera have been dismissed. The move came after the victim in the case decided to drop the matter. Herrera must complete counseling within 60 days. Police were called to a casino in May on a report of a domestic assault. Herrera was placed on leave by Major League Baseball afterward.

The Rays have put first baseman Ji-Man Choi on the 10-day injured list with a strained left ankle and recalled infielder Mike Brosseau from Triple-A Durham. Choi is hitting .266 with nine homers and 33 RBIs in 70 games. He has just eight hits in his last 46 at-bats.

Dodgers starting pitcher Rich Hill has been transferred to the 60-day injured list with a left forearm strain. The 39-year-old left-hander went on the IL June 20. He is 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 10 starts this season.

Houston's Alex Bregman and Joc Pederson of the Dodgers have joined the field for Monday's All-Star Home Run Derby.

WIMBLEDON

American teenager Coco Gauff has advanced to the third round at Wimbledon. The 15-year-old Gauff followed Monday’s opening-round win over seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams by taking down former semifinalist Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-3, 6-3. The youngest player to come through qualifying for Wimbledon in the Open era never faced a break point and had only 10 unforced errors compared to 24 for Rybarikova.

Gauff isn’t the only unseeded American to reach Round 3. Danielle Collins advanced with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over No. 12 Anastasija Sevastova. Other second-round winners on the women’s side include third seed Karolina Pliskova, seventh seed Simona Halep and No. 8 Elinva Svitolina, but American and 17th seed Madison Keys was knocked out in straight sets by Polona Hercog.

Over to the men’s side, when last year's men's finalists moved into the third round within minutes of each other. Moments after Kevin Anderson converted his second match point against Janko Tipsarevic with an ace on No. 2 Court, Novak Djokovic wrapped up his straight-set win over American Denis Kudla on Centre Court. No. 22 Stan Wawrinka was the highest men’s seed to lose Wednesday, falling to American Reilly Opelka, 8-6 in the fifth set.

NFL

The NFL says Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott won't be suspended over an incident in Las Vegas. Police say there was altercation between Elliott and a security guard. The league says Commissioner Roger Goodell determined Elliott didn't violate the league's personal conduct policy. The two-time NFL rushing champion tweeted a statement acknowledging a "poor decision" and vowing to avoid trouble.

Former Giants backup quarterback Jared Lorenzen has died at age 38. The University of Kentucky product holds Wildcats career passing marks with 10,354 yards and 1,514 attempts, including a record 321 throws in 2000. A release from the school said Lorenzen's family announced his death on Wednesday, but did not specify a cause or where he died.

NBA

A person with knowledge of the deal says the Dallas Mavericks and Boban Marjanovic have agreed on a contract that will likely make him their backup center. The addition of Marjanovic gives the Mavericks two 7-foot-3 European players. The Serbian joins Kristaps Porzingis, the Latvian forward who has agreed to a $158 million, five-year max contract. Dallas will be the fifth team in five seasons for Marjanovic, who started his NBA career with the rival San Antonio Spurs in 2015-16.

A person familiar with the situation says forward Markieff Morris has agreed to a two-year contract with the Detroit Pistons. Morris has averaged 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds during his eight-year career, but he played a career-low 58 games while battling a neck injury last season. Morris has averaged at least 11.5 points per game over the last five seasons.

The Trail Blazers have announced the signings of forwards Mario Hezonja and Anthony Tolliver. Hezonja played three years with the Magic before averaging 8.8 points in 58 games for the Knicks last season. Tolliver spent last season with the Timberwolves and has also played with eight other teams over 11 NBA seasons, averaging 6.4 points.

A person with knowledge of the situation says the Hawks have acquired veteran forward Chandler Parsons in a trade which sent Miles Plumlee and Solomon Hill to Memphis. The 30-year-old Parsons averaged 7.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 25 games, including three starts, for Memphis last season.

The Bulls say center Wendell Carter Jr. will have surgery next week to repair an abdominal muscle injury. The 6-foot-10 Carter showed promise last season after being drafted with the No. 7 overall pick, averaging 10.3 points and 7 rebounds in 44 games before a season-ending left thumb injury.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Holy Cross has named Marquette assistant Brett Nelson its next men’s basketball coach. Athletic director Marcus Blossom announced the hire less than a month after Bill Carmody retired. The 38-year-old Nelson spent the last five seasons at Marquette, including two as associate head coach. He helped guide the Golden Eagles to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016-17 and 2018-19 and a second-place finish in the Big East this past season.
