Spark!Lab Innovation Space Opens At Springfield Science Museum

WAMC

An educational initiative developed at the Smithsonian has opened at the Springfield Science Museum.

Spark!Lab is a hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Tricia Edwards, of the Smithsonian. said it is not a place to learn about inventors, but a place where people can come up with their own inventions and solve problems.

" You don't see instructions. There aren't step one-two-three. It is really about what is my idea and how do I use the materials here to create the invention I want to create," said Edwards.

Each first grader in the Springfield Public Schools will have a field trip to the Spark!Lab space.

The Springfield Museums and the Smithsonian have announced a three-year extension of their affiliation.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
