Siena Poll Shows Close Race In NYS 41st Senate District

WAMC, Allison Dunne

The latest Siena College poll tells different stories for two New York state Senate races in the Hudson Valley.

According to a Siena College poll released November 2, in the 41st state Senate District, incumbent Democrat Terry Gipson has narrowed a 12-point deficit against Republican challenger Sue Serino to two points, rendering the race practically even. Serino has support from 48 percent of likely voters and Gipson, 46 percent. Dutchess County Legislator Serino previously led the race 52 percent-40 percent. Siena College poll spokesman Steven Greenberg says Serino leads by 26 points in the small Putnam portion of the district, up from 17 points. However, Gipson has eked out a 47 percent-46 percent lead in Dutchess, after having trailed there by 11 points. And in a rematch of the closest state Senate election from 2012, Republican challenger George Amedore continues to have a double digit lead over incumbent Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk. With little movement over the last four weeks, Amedore leads Tkaczyk 54 percent-43 percent.
