U.S. Senator Charles Schumer will lay a wreath at the Sgt. Henry Johnson Monument in Albany's Washington Park Sunday afternoon.
After paying his respects, the Democrat will head back to Washington where Johnson's Medal of Honor Ceremony will be held Tuesday.
Schumer will meet with local veteran groups who he says were "invaluable" in advocating and helping to secure Johnson's medal.
Sgt. Henry Johnson served in World War I. Nicknamed "Black Death," Johnson was born in 1897 and died in 1929.
Today’s ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
