School nurses from two lower Hudson Valley counties are participating in a training session Wednesday to respond to the growing number of students with substance abuse problems.

Westchester County is sponsoring the training conference to help school nurses assist students with substance abuse and mental health issues. Physicians, adolescent psychiatrists, nurses and others will deliver updates on the latest strategies for assisting students who are vaping, using other addictive substances, or struggling with mental health issues. At least two panel discussions address vaping. Nurses from more than 50 Westchester and Putnam schools will be in attendance for the training session, which is called “Adolescent Substance Use Issues: For School Nurses Only.” The all-day session is at the Westchester Marriot in Tarrytown.
