Scenic Hudson Protects 590 Acres Along The Hudson

A Poughkeepsie, New York-based environmental group has protected nearly 600 acres along the Hudson River in Columbia County.

Scenic Hudson has protected 590 ecologically important acres in Stockport. The land deal contains more than 2.4 miles of Hudson River shoreline, grasslands, forested bluffs and ravines, tidal wetlands and long segments of 11 Hudson River tributary streams. The property was one of the largest privately owned, undeveloped tracts of land along the Hudson River estuary. It also was a site proposed for a landfill in the 1980s. Scenic Hudson officials say the property’s conservation is critical to maintaining Stockport Flats’ biological diversity. This land protection is part of Scenic Hudson’s Saving the Land That Matters Most campaign.
