Ruling Takes Primary Candidate Off The Ballot, Again

wikipedia commons

A third candidate in a Democratic primary for Rockland County executive has been removed from the ballot a second time.

The second removal of Village of Suffern Mayor Dagan LaCorte from the ballot comes after Wednesday’s appellate court ruling. LaCorte says he is now taking the matter to the state Court of Appeals. LaCorte was considered off the ballot the first time after Rockland’s Democratic Elections Commissioner said he was 74 signatures short of the 2,000 necessary to secure a spot. This was after many signatures were ruled invalid following numerous objections to LaCorte’s petition filed by the campaign of candidate David Fried. LaCorte at that point took the matter to state Supreme Court and was returned to the ballot. Fried’s campaign appealed the ruling. Fried Campaign Manager Stephen Papas called the appellate court ruling justice for democracy.

The other primary candidate is County Legislator Ilan Schoenberger.
