Rodriguez Suspension Could Be Soon

Major League Baseball may try to suspend Alex Rodriguez under its collective bargaining agreement instead of its drug rules, which would eliminate any chance of delaying a penalty until after the case goes to an arbitrator.

Checking the scoreboard, Tampa Bay is back on top of the American League East, winning 2-1 over Boston. Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz won't be suspended for destroying two dugout phones with his bat during this weekend's series in Baltimore. Cleveland beat the White Sox 3-2. It was Texas over the Angels 4-3 and Oakland topped Toronto 9-4.

In the National League, Daniel Murphy drove in three runs to help the Mets snap a five-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over Miami. Ike Davis delivered a go-ahead double in the Mets three-run seventh inning. Pittsburgh edged St. Louis 9-2. Atlanta passed Colorado 9-8 in 10 innings. Milwaukee shut out the Cubs 5-0 and Cincinnati fell to San Diego 2-1.

In other baseball news, a minor league baseball team in Virginia intends to poke fun at New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner and other celebrities with a "Salute to Scandal Night."

The Class AA Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League intend to sell hot dogs for $1 on Thursday. The team says fans also can enter a contest by tweeting photos during the game showing how they are enjoying their hot dogs.

At Saratoga Race Course, Dance to Bristol won the Grade 2 Honorable Miss Handicap stakes for trainer Ollie Figgins III, along with jockey Xavier Perez, paying $3.70 to win.

The Times Union is reporting that attendance is down this year at Saratoga Race Course including a 21 percent decline on July 24th.

Finally, Connecticut and Massachusetts authorities on Monday searched in and around a lake in the hometown of Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots player who is charged with murder. The search is reportedly tied to the weapon sought in the investigation.
