Rockland Legislators Approve County Budget

The Rockland County Legislature this week voted to adopt the 2018 amended county budget.

Legislators say it was the first unanimous vote in at least 15 years. The $697.5 million budget increases property taxes by 1.95 percent, below the 2 percent state property tax cap. The increase would mean the average residential property owner will pay an additional $24 next year. Lawmakers say the budget maintains vital county services and funds nonprofit organizations. The adopted budget next goes to Republican County Executive Ed Day, whose spokeswoman says he intends to sign.
