Retired Priest Placed On Leave Following Abuse Allegations

A retired New York Roman Catholic Priest has been placed on administrative leave following allegations of sexual abuse of a minor in the 1960s and 70s.

Albany Bishop Edward Scharfenberger announced Rev. Daniel Maher was placed on leave Saturday, pending an investigation.

Maher served at several Capital Region parishes between the 1960s until his 2008 retirement.

Allegations of sexual abuse were of a minor were filed against Maher in 2003 and 2005. The Albany Roman Catholic Diocesan Review Board found “no reasonable grounds” in both cases and Maher remained a priest in good standing.
