Firefighters in Albany battled a massive fire that broke out Thursday night, impacting five buildings on Myrtle Avenue.

Firefighters responded just before midnight to the fire at 20 Myrtle Avenue in a vacant building. Fire crews quickly realized the fire had spread to two occupied buildings, 16 and 18. Firefighters say that buildings 22 and 24 also caught fire.

Firefighters say that residents self-evacuated and 30 people have been accounted for. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Red Cross says it’s helping 37 people.

The Troy, Watervliet, and Green Island Fire Departments were called in to assist. The fire is still under investigation.
