Purple Heart Truck To Stop In Western Massachusetts On Nationwide Trip

Facebook

The 2018 Purple Heart Truck Run is making a stop Saturday in western Massachusetts.

A specially adapted Ford F-150 truck, painted purple, is on a 7,800-mile cross-country journey with wounded combat veterans taking turns at the wheel for the entire trip.

The truck run is intended to raise awareness about the mobility needs of wounded veterans.

Public events with the truck are scheduled in West Springfield and in Middlefield at the grave of a Revolutionary War hero.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Brian Willette, Massachusetts Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
