Protest Planned Outside Stefanik Office Thursday

Upstate New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is applauding an amendment to House Republicans’ federal health care plan. Meantime, a progressive group is preparing another protest outside her district office.

Citizen Action of New York is planning a “die-in” Thursday afternoon on the seventh anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.

The protest to be held outside the Glens Falls office of Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik was scheduled after Stefanik’s office announced her support for an amendment to the House American Health Care Act written by fellow New York Republicans Chris Collins and John Faso.

The amendment would bar federal reimbursements for New York State Medicaid funds paid for by local governments, a move they say will benefit taxpayers.

Critics, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, say the AHCA will leave millions of New Yorkers without health insurance.
