Joe Seeman, a progressive activist, says he is exploring a run to unseat Republican New State Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh in 2020.

Walsh has represented the 112th District, which covers parts of Saratoga and Schenectady counties, since 2017.

Seeman, a member of Saratoga Progressive Action, has helped organize protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies and outside Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s office.

"If I run, my campaign would be about representing the interests of the 99% and fighting against the undemocratic political power of the richest 1%," Seeman said in an online statement.

?“The most important part about our state’s democratic process is giving the voters a choice, and I welcome the challenge and opportunity for a productive dialogue," Assemblywoman Walsh said in a statement Thursday. "I am proud of my record, and of the work I have been able to accomplish both in the Legislature and back home. Whether at their doorstep, an event or a visit to one of the many places that makes our community so great, I always look forward to meeting the residents of the 112th Assembly District. It is an honor to represent each and every one of them and as a new year begins I will continue to do all that I can to make their voices heard in Albany."
