Get out and enjoy the sun with WAMC.

The sun is shining, the daffodils are blooming, and it’s the perfect weather to get outdoors. Now, most people would think that this is counterintuitive. I mean, do we really want you to leave your cars or home and radios behind? Of course not! Did you know can take WAMC with you on the go? That’s right, we can be where ever you are via your smartphone, tablet, and of course any of your listening devices. The WAMC app has been updated for iPhones and androids and you can always stream WAMC and WAMC2 HD on-line, so you can always get to our website and listen while on the go as well.

So… this Memorial Day, when you’re on your way to your BBQs, cooking up a storm, or enjoying the weather, keep your radios and devices tuned to WAMC because we have an awesome line-up of special programming.

At 9AM, beginning right after Morning Edition with David Guistina, we join host Charlie Warren for the two hour special A Salute in Song For Memorial Day. The program is highlighted by music of the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf, touching also on Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.  It documents our country’s strife over our entry into some wars, but respectfully acknowledges the hardships of combat and honors our fighting men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Following at 11AM is The Harry Nilsson Special Schmecial. American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson is best known for his songs “Everybody’s Talkin’”, “Coconut” and “Without You”. In this one-hour show, we’ll hear how Nilsson followed his own path. Part iconoclast and part storyteller, his curiosity, his sense of humor and dramatic flair led him to create an extremely wide range of music. Throughout the hour we’ll hear Nilsson’s work and talk with friends and family about the man and artist.

Noon brings us Midday Magazine with host Jim Levulis. We’ll have the latest news from around the region, including special Memorial Day pieces, and your daily weather report.

We’ll hear President George H.W. Bush’s Liberation of Kuwait speech at 2PM on The Power of Words. Afterwards, Alan Chartock speaks with Dr. Richard Pfau about the speech and they discuss the importance of it in American and world history.

So, take us with you as you travel, bask in the sun, or enjoy a long relaxing weekend.
