Professional Basketball Team's First Season In Western Mass. Called A Success

A new competitor in the region’s professional sports marketplace has ended its inaugural season.

The Springfield Sting lost a game to the New Jersey Express last weekend and was eliminated from the American Basketball Association playoffs.

Despite going out on a tough two-point loss, the franchise’s founder and owner, Zach Baru, said it was a successful season for the first-year team.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Baru.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
