Poughkeepsie Is Getting Tough On Reckless Driving

WAMC, Allison Dunne

The City of Poughkeepsie’s police department is cracking down on reckless driving.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison says he’s received a lot of complaints about unsafe driving since the beginning of COVID-19 restrictions that put traffic enforcement on hold. He says that, as of last week, the city began an aggressive traffic safety program, adding officers to enforcement.

“We are not going to tolerate this type of driving that we have seen, especially because we now have additional pedestrians in and around the City of Poughkeepsie,” Rolison says. “And, if you continue to drive that way, you’re going to be stopped; you’re going to be issued traffic citations.”

“If you are going a certain mile-an-hour over the speed limit, and that is reckless driving, we’re going to tow your call as well,” says Rolison.
