The Pittsfield, Massachusetts police department is investigating after one of its officers shot a city man who threatened police.

Police say 52-year-old Kerry P. Robinson was arrested Tuesday night on an intent to murder charge after the confrontation with officers. Law enforcement responded to a call from Robinson’s mother that he was destroying her house on Glenwood Avenue. He was discovered at the scene armed with a bat, and police say he made threats that he was armed and would shoot them.

“While a perimeter was being established the suspect exited the front entrance of the house armed with a knife and a broken golf club," said Lieutenant Gary Traversa. "The suspect was given multiple commands to stop, repeatedly, and regardless, the suspect continued to advance.”

Robinson was first hit with “less lethal” shotgun rounds before being hit with a round fired by Sergeant John Murphy.

The suspect was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
