A city man was killed in a motor vehicle collision in Pittsfield, Massachusetts Tuesday morning.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s office says 54-year-old motorcyclist Michael Lanphear of East Housatonic Street collided with a Jeep driven by Abigail Hunt, 25, in the westbound lane of West Housatonic Street at Osceola Street just before 8 a.m. While Hunt was uninjured, Lanphear died. The Pittsfield Police Department shut down the street – which is also Route 20 – as they conducted their investigation, which the Berkshire DA says is ongoing. No charges or tickets were issued and the road was reopened.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
