Pittsfield Little League Team On Historic Run Toward World Series

The Pittsfield American Little League All-Stars are on a historic tear as they near the Little League World Series.

Samir Abdallah is the Vice President of Pittsfield American Little League. He says this year’s roster of 13 12-year-olds has brought the team to new heights.

“This is the first time we’ve gotten to the finals of this stage. We’ve made it the tournament before with a couple wins, but this is the furthest we’ve gotten so far," Abdallah told WAMC.

Wednesday’s 10-1 win over Coventry, Rhode Island has them one win away from getting on the bus to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. They have to win Saturday’s New England Regional Championship in Bristol, Connecticut to move forward. Pittsfielders can watch the 1 p.m. game for free at the Beacon Cinema on North Street. The cinema is also the home of the WAMC News Berkshire Bureau.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
