Berkshire Community College is set to host a debate for city councilor candidates at its Pittsfield, Massachusetts campus. WAMC’s Josh Landes has more.

Candidates vying for the open seats in two wards will gather in the Koussevitzky Arts Center at 6 p.m. Monday for the debate. In Ward 5, Jonathan Lothrop, Eugene Maselli, and Patrick Kavey will face off, and Edward Carmel, Craig Gaetani, Dina Guiel Lampiasi, and Joseph Nichols in Ward 6. BCC says all seven are expected to attend, which will be televised on Pittsfield Community Television. Incumbent Ward 5 councilor Donna Todd Rivers and Incumbent Ward 6 councilor John Krol are not seeking relection. The preliminary municipal election is September 17th.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
