With the Massachusetts primary coming up on September 1st, many residents are taking advantage of early and mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of this week, Pittsfield City Clerk Michele Benjamin says over 7,000 requests for early voting ballots have been registered in the city of around 43,000. She spoke with WAMC about voting security and turnout so far.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
