Pittsfield Approves Funding For Berkshire Innovation Center

Pittsfield Economic Development Authority

The city of Pittsfield has approved the use of $250,000 to help fund the non-profit that will manage the highly anticipated Berkshire Innovation Center. On Tuesday, the Pittsfield City Council unanimously approved using $250,000 from the General Electric Economic Development Fund to help launch the center at the William Stanley Business Park. Chairman of the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority Mick Callahan spoke before the council when the funding request was made last month.

“We all want to drive by there and see the lights on, but we all want to drive by there and say we participated and voted for it because it was in the best interest of the city and Berkshire County,” said Callahan.

PEDA expects to match the funds. In August, the city accepted a nearly $10 million grant from Massachusetts for the proposed 20,000-square-foot center. Construction could start this spring setting up an opening date of summer 2016.
