Orange County Exec Plans Budget Cuts

The Orange County executive is looking at cost-cutting measures to help plug a $60 million budget gap next year.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus has asked county commissioners and department heads to make contingency plans and immediately reduce operational costs based on an initial 5 percent reduction in that department’s share of county taxation for the remainder of 2014, and 10 percent in the 2015 budget. The immediate plan would come on top of a decision this week to suspend bonus merit payments approved in 2013 of up to 2.75 percent of salaries for 44 managers. Neuhaus has requested that the 5 percent cost-reduction plans be submitted to his office by June 27, with the possibility of legislative action in July.
