One Republican Drops Out Of NY Congressional Race

Less than one week after saying his name was confirmed on the ballot, one of the Republicans in a New York congressional race is bowing out.

Conservative Republican Bob Bishop, after just having had his petitions validated by election officials, has withdrawn from the 19th District congressional race. In a statement, the Delaware County farmer said, “The time has come for the Republican Party to unite behind our strongest candidates if we are going to reclaim our country for our next generation.” To this end, Bishop announced his support for former state assemblyman John Faso. The other Republican headed for a June primary in the 19th District is Andrew Heaney, a small business owner from Millbrook. The seat is currently held by Chris Gibson, who is not seeking another term and who recently announced he would not launch a bid for New York governor in 2018.
