A New York state agency has designated Kingston a Clean Energy Community, the first city in the state to earn the title. The initiative is part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision.

Kingston Mayor Steve Noble says the city received the designation from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for its leadership in reducing energy use, cutting costs and driving clean energy locally. Kingston completed four  of 10 high-impact clean energy actions identified by NYSERDA as part of the Clean Energy Communities initiative. The designation gives Kingston an opportunity to apply for up to $100,000 towards additional clean energy projects, with no local cost share. Ulster was the first county to receive the designation and did so in November.
