The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced plans for a former amusement park in the Adirondacks.

On Thursday, DEC outlined plans to transform the former Frontier Town theme park in North Hudson in Essex County.

DEC says the proposed Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian, and Day Use area would boost tourism and strengthen the regional economy.

The department envisions the property as a “Gateway to the Adirondacks” with 91 campsites with accommodations for recreational vehicles and equestrian camping.

The Adirondack Park Agency has deemed a permit application for the project complete. Informational meetings are planned in North Hudson on Monday.
