NYS Senator Calls For MTA Hearings In Additional HV Counties

A New York state senator is calling on the MTA to hold hearings on its proposed fare hikes in additional Hudson Valley counties.

Republican Senator Sue Serino is criticizing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for skipping Dutchess and Putnam Counties when it comes to holding public hearings on the MTA’s proposed fare hikes, including for Metro-North. Serino, whose district includes most of Dutchess and part of Putnam, says the MTA is disenfranchising a large number of riders by failing to hold public hearings in these counties as well as in Orange. An MTA spokesman says hearings are just one part of a process that includes other options for input, such as online or regular mail. The MTA has scheduled hearings in New York City and Westchester and Rockland Counties, beginning December 5.
