Legislation to set uniform dates for school proposition votes has passed the New York state Senate.

Hudson Valley state Senator John Bonacic says his bill would amend the Education Law to state that all school proposition votes be held on the third Tuesday in May. However, the election shall be held on the second Tuesday in May if the education commissioner certifies no later than March 1 that there would be a conflict with a religious holiday.  Bonacic, a Republican, believes the bill will help increase voter turnout.  The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
