Earth Week celebration got a lift Thursday in New York with an announcement of $1.4 million in conservation grants to land trusts statewide.

Grants were distributed to 50 nonprofit land trusts around the state.  Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens made the announcement at Indian Ladder Farms in Altamont:

"Here in the Capital District, 11 different organizations will receive nearly $350,000 through 14 grants. The grants will leverage additional funds to expand the areas network of trails and protect natural areas, increase community connections to their food, strengthen landowner and community outreach, and implement natural standards for landtrust excellence."

22 awards totaling $425,300 are earmarked for the Hudson Valley, including $22,000 for the Kingston Land Trust.
