NYCLU Wants Court To Require Ramapo Police To Release Reports

The New York Civil Liberties Union is asking a state court to require a police department in Rockland County to release reports involving the use of force, car stops, detentions and the discipline of officers, among other issues.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/1YnsksF ) the group requested information last year after four black state parole officers filed a federal civil rights lawsuit accusing Ramapo police of violating their rights during a traffic stop. A judge has dismissed most of those claims. The group requested records involving dozens of different categories. Court documents filed Wednesday with Manhattan state Supreme Court say Ramapo police redacted significant portions of those documents and never explained why. Town Attorney Michael Klein says information that could have put officers at risk was withheld.
