New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that allows for email communication to voters. Emails would be in addition to postal mail.
The legislation allow for county Boards of Elections to email voters about when to vote in primary and general elections; polling location and any last-minute changes to a location; and early voting information. The bill gives voters the option of providing their email address when registering to vote. Democrat David Carlucci sponsored the bill in the Senate, and Democrat Sandy Galef was the Assembly sponsor. They hope it’s another step toward improving voter turnout. The measure takes effect in one year.
