NY Governor: State Resources Deployed For Shawangunk Ridge Fire

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Tuesday says state resources have been deployed to fight a forest fire that began in Sullivan County and spread to Ulster County.

Cuomo says the state resources include firefighters and equipment, like Blackhawk helicopters with huge buckets, to fight the wildfire in Shawangunk Ridge State Forest that has burned about 2,200 acres and is 75 percent contained. First responders evacuated some 30 homes Monday in Cragsmoor, along Route 52 in Ulster County. And while residents were able to return to their homes Tuesday, additional evacuations may be required. Cuomo says there is a high risk of wildfires because of dry conditions. A burn ban in New York remains in effect through May 14.
