NTSB Prelim Report On Metro-North Crash Due Out This Month

Federal investigators expect to issue a preliminary report this month on the fiery collision between a commuter train and an SUV in New York’s Westchester County that killed six.

However, such preliminary reports from the National Transportation Safety Board rarely include major disclosures or conclusions. Those could be several months away. A Metro-North Railroad train crashed into a Mercedes SUV on February 3 at a grade crossing in Valhalla, sparking an explosion and fire that burned out the first car of the Harlem Line train. The woman in the SUV and five men on the train were killed. NTSB investigators arrived the next day and stayed until Wednesday. A spokesman said Thursday that they do not plan to comment on any findings before issuing the preliminary report the week of February 23.
