Home to MASS MoCA and a number of studios and galleries, the city of North Adams is one step closer to securing a cultural district designation for its downtown. The North Adams City Council this week endorsed an effort by the city’s director of community events and the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to secure the state designation. BCRC director Jen Crowell says the districts are designed to increase economic and cultural opportunities and could lead to state funding.

“We’re also really hopeful that this could be spearheading some really interesting and special projects that the city could be using these funds for.”

The Massachusetts Cultural Council must approve the city’s application.
