Newtown Teacher Who Took Gun To School Had Gotten Threats

An attorney for a former Newtown, Connecticut teacher who brought a loaded gun to school says his client bought the weapon after receiving threatening messages from conspiracy theorists claiming the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre never occurred. The News-Times reports former Newtown Middle School teacher Jason Adams received a form of probation at a court appearance Thursday.

His lawyer told court officials Adams had received dozens of threatening calls and messages. He said Adams was running late and had forgotten to lock the gun inside his vehicle in April. Adams had a permit for the .45-caliber pistol, but state law prohibits firearms on school grounds.

The middle school is less than 2 miles from the site of the 2012 shooting rampage that killed 20 students and six educators.
