Neal: Republican Opposition To Strikes Political

Congressman Richard Neal

Pointing to the House’s record during the Bush administration, Massachusetts Democratic Congressman Richard Neal, the dean of the state delegation, says he believes Republican opposition to President Obama’s plan for possible military strikes against Syria is based on political calculations. Neal spoke on WAMC’s Congressional Corner program.

“The Republican Congress during the 6 of the 8 years George Bush was president, they clearly abrogated their responsibility to provide oversight. There is a good reason in our constitutional system for the legislative branch of government to provide oversight as it relates to the executive, and I think that you are witnessing here, the determination of many republicans not to hear what Barrack Obama has to say.”
