A school district in the lower Hudson Valley is dedicating an auditorium to an award-winning actor, who will be on hand for the event.

The Mount Vernon City School District is renaming its renovated Woods Auditorium in Nellie A. Thornton High School The Phylicia Rashad Auditorium during a formal dedication to the actor, director, Mount Vernon resident and philanthropist. Rashad is known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show. She’s also a Tony-award winner. The school district and the Performing and Visual Arts Magnet Program are hosting the first annual "In Celebration of the Arts," to pay homage to the city’s richness in arts past and support its future. The Saturday afternoon dedication will take place during the celebration. Proceeds will benefit arts education across the district.
