Mother Dies After State Trooper Hits Car

A northern New York mother was killed and her two young children were injured when a state trooper hit her car Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday morning at about 7:15, the New York State Police responded to a fatal accident south of Plattsburgh.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Trooper Joshua Jenkins was driving a marked State Police SUV. He failed to yield right-of-way and hit a car driven by 33 year old Jennifer Chauvin of Peru, NY.

Chauvin died at the scene.  Her sons aged 6 and 3 were taken to the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Trooper Jenkins was also treated and released.

The State Police and District Attorney are investigating.
