Meningitis Victims Hope For Mass. Criminal Charges

Victims of last year's fungal meningitis outbreak don't hold out much hope that they will receive compensation for the deaths and illnesses caused by tainted steroids traced to a Massachusetts compounding pharmacy.

But some hope they will find justice if criminal charges are brought against the company's executives.

A federal grand jury in Boston has been investigating the Framingham-based New England Compounding Center for more than a year.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says he will hold a news conference today with Boston U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz to discuss a development in the investigation.

The FBI recently asked anyone who received one of the tainted steroid shots to fill out a questionnaire about the injections and their illnesses.

More than 750 people were sickened in 20 states, including 64 who died.
