Meetings Planned On Pipeline, Compression Station Concerns

Two meetings aimed at informing people about a proposed natural gas pipeline that would run through New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are scheduled for Saturday. The Berkshire Environmental Action Team and No Fracked Gas in Mass are hosting a meeting at the Cummington Community House at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The groups have consistently opposed Kinder Morgan’s proposed pipeline even after a change in December shifted a portion of the route into New Hampshire. With Kinder Morgan planning a compressor station in Windsor, the groups will show a new documentary by a local filmmaker which raises concerns of potential noise and air pollution from compressor stations. Rosemary Wessel is with No Fracked Gas in Mass.

“Not only are they putting out carbon emissions when they burn the gas, but they tend to leak,” said Wessel.

Stop NY Fracked GasPipeline will host a similar meeting about a proposed compressor station in Rensselaer County at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Nassau.
