MCLA Presidential Pick Withdraws

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has announced that president-elect Greg Summers has withdrawn his acceptance of the position. MCLA Board of Trustees Chair Tyler Fairbank says Summers is not able to relocate because of recent family health issues. Summers is currently provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Cynthia Brown has agreed to continue serving as interim president while the board of trustees evaluates its options moving forward, according to a press release from the college.

MCLA’s selection of Summers was approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education in Marchfollowing a six-month search processthat saw nearly 60 applicants. Former president Mary Grant left in January to become chancellor at University of North Carolina at Asheville.
