Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has narrowed its presidential search down to five candidates. It’s the college’s second search in less than a year after its previous pick withdrew due to family health concerns in March. The finalists are Mary Alexander of Western Connecticut State University, James Birge of Marygrove College, Scott Furlong of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Alan Ray of Harvard Law School and Sonoma State University’s Andrew Rogerson. Cynthia Brown, who resigned as MCLA’s interim president in August to seek the full-time position, did not make the list.

“My second term expires next spring and at that point we will have a new president,” said MCLA Board of Trustees Chair Tyler Fairbank in August. “I feel very confident that we will have maintained our trajectory.”

MCLA expects to recommend its selection to the state board of higher education in December.
