The Massachusetts Health Connector has opened a special enrollment period because of the coronavirus.

Normally people without health insurance can buy it from the online exchange in Massachusetts only during the annual open-enrollment period which ended in January.

But Health Connector spokesman Jason Lefferts said people can get coverage through a new window until April 25th.

" We know that there are people who don't have health insurance and are concerned about the coronavirus and may need to access testing and services down the road," said Lefferts.

      People who need health insurance should call 877- MA-ENROLL (( 877) 623-6765).

During the most recent open enrollment period a record number – more than 312,000 – signed up for coverage through the Health Connector.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
