For counter-terror and intelligence analyst Malcolm Nance, President Donald Trump's abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday has raised more questions about the investigation into ties between the administration and Russia, even as a White House spokeswoman said Wednesday that the administration wants the FBI to complete its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Nance, who spoke with WAMC's Ian Pickus on Wednesday, previously deployed to intelligence operations in the Balkans, Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. He is the author of five books, including the New York Times bestseller Defeating ISIS, and is a counterterrorism analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. His most recent book is The Plot to Hack America: How Putin’s Cyberspies and WikiLeaks Tried to Steal the 2016 Election.

Nance says the U.S. "has been in a constitutional crisis certainly since the inauguration."

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
